The excitement is mounting as exhibitors and supporters continue to
role in, keen to participate in and contribute to the success of our
forthcoming Family Fun Day.
Lower Moss Wood Animal Sanctuary
Knutsford Town Community Award winner 2018
On the nature front, we are delighted to welcome the educational nature reserve and animal hospital charity, who will be demonstrating their work in conservation, and how they provide support to indigenous animals and birds which need nurture and shelter.
Among the wildlife they have rescued and are supporting are a family of owls, and they will be bringing a number of these birds along, a species which we rarely have the opportunity to see at such close quarters.
Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB)
Continuing on an avian theme, local enthusiast Hugh Pulsford will be demonstrating the skilful technique of ‘bird netting’. This allows wild birds to be easily handled and ringed with minimal stress – an important procedure which permits the progress of various species to be logged and monitored in the future.
Hugh will also bring supporting information on bird conservation and a variety of leaflets from the RSPB.
Phoenix Model Flying Club
The Chelford based model flying club will also be exhibiting things that fly but this time with wooden wings rather than the feathered variety!
The club, who fly radio-controlled fixed wing model aeroplanes, are putting on a static aviation display ideal for aviator fans young and old. Including Biplanes, Gliders, Spitfires and Fast Jets – and to further encourage the next generation of aviators flying displays are possible.
Meanwhile back on the ground, local farmer Martin Reed will again be bringing a variety of the new generation of tractors, and for comparison may also bring examples of the earliest type of tractor and other agricultural machinery.
Classic Car Display
We will also see a local classic car enthusiast who specialises in the rescue and restoration of classic motor cars, often brought over from the continent. Hopefully he will bring along a Rolls Royce and Porsche or two and maybe some other classics from his motor trade colleagues.
Wilmslow Fire Brigade
As fire engines are always a huge attraction for children, we are delighted the Wilmslow Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed their attendance during the afternoon of the Fun Day complete with their fire-fighting crew!
Fun Day Pipeline
Plans are also underway to gain the attendance of a traction engine or engines. We also have high hopes that the local Police will be in attendance – not to arrest members of the Committee – but to exhibit a range of their services and equipment used within the Cheshire Force
